In recent years, several businesses have decided to bet on Japanese food in Cuba, specifically in Havana. As a result we can now enjoy a new universe of flavors familiar to us from films and television.

We are not saying that sushi is new to Cuba, but it has become much more popular in recent years. At Mandao, we always look to offer the greatest possible variety, so today we want to take the opportunity to highlight some establishments from where you can order Japanese food for delivery to your home in Havana using our mobile app. It is difficult to choose from all the choices, but we will focus on three dishes from each of these establishments.

Rei Sushi Bar: Sushi specialist with a western twist

As its name suggests, the specialty of this place is sushi. Not only the variety of styles (maki, uramaki, nigiri, kaburamaki) make it the perfect place to taste different flavors, but also the large assortment of each kind along with the personal touch of the chef.

Vegetables, fruits, octopus, tuna, snapper, shrimp, crab, or cheese, are some of the ingredients that we can find in combination with the traditional sushi rice, sesame seeds and a sauce that may well be teriyaki, ponzu or eel.

Jama Asian Inspired: fusion of flavors

At Jama Asian Inspired we can find Asian delicacies fused with international flavors. Jama’s cuisine does not seek purity of flavors, but a mixture of styles adapted to Cuban cuisine.

What dishes capture our fancy? We start with the Kappa Maki Roll, consisting of ten pieces made with nori seaweed, cucumber, chives, carrot and avocado; Gyozas, small dumplings stuffed with pork and vegetables, first steamed and then grilled; or the Pork Belly Tacos, four tortillas served with pork, grilled with teriyaki sauce and baby tomatoes and coriander.

Fuumiyaki: traditional dishes of Japanese cuisine

Fuumiyaki has one of the most varied options in terms of Japanese food in Havana that you can find at Mandao. Its dishes explore a wide variety of ingredients and formats, prepared and served according to Japanese tradition.

Two options that we can always approach are Teriyaki (pork, chicken and lobster), and Tempura (chicken, fish and lobster). Teriyaki is a Japanese cooking technique in which food is roasted with a glaze of soy sauce and other ingredients. Tempura is a typical Japanese dish prepared with a special batter and fried containing seafood, meat or vegetables. The other recommendation is Yakisoba, chicken and pork, a Japanese dish of stir-fry noodles, which are usually flavored with a sauce similar to Worcestershire.

So if you like Japanese food and you are in Havana, order with Mandao!
